If you are like me and a million other guitar players, it all starts so innocently. You get your first guitar and amp and find out you want just a little bit different tone. So you buy a louder amp. Then you get that really cool guitar you saw Joe Satriani playing because you know that is all you need to get *that* sound. As we all know, it never stops once it starts.
This is the story of my trip through the hallowed halls of tone. I picked up this cool little Fender Blues Jr.Legacy. A friend of mine was moving out of town and he gave it to me for a good price. I liked it and it was a good amp but a little light on the bottom end.
I found the Billm Audio website http://billmaudio.com where there is all things Blues Jr. Bill said it the best, this is a good little amp, but with a few tweaks it can be a great amp. I took the bait and bought the tonestack, power supply stiffener and the output transformer in the hopes to add that bottom end.
Next time, we need to get the PCB out so we can mod it. Remember, this is a legacy amp so it has been aged. Fender made this Blues Jr. look like it has been kicking around for about 20 years. There is even a beer bottle stain on the top and a rip in the speaker grill. The screws are even rusty.
We need to prepare for the mods by documenting what we are starting with. And, the rusty screw heads present a problem. see you next time...
